God’s Not Through With Me Yet?

Is there a God’s not through with me yet scripture? No. Believers often use this phrase as means to express or confess their level of spiritual maturity not quite being where it needs to be in order to handle a situation in a God-like way.

It’s a lot like saying ‘I’m not on that level yet.’ Unfortunately, it’s also often used as a pass to do or act how we really feel in a hot situation. But for the faithful in Christ, this is a non-starter. Sometimes we say this as an innocent joke, and that’s okay.

But giving a disclaimer like this as an excuse, especially before committing the act, means that we understand exactly what we’re about to do isn’t like the ways of God. Our conduct, and especially our response [to anything], is not just a reflection of Christ but is also a measure of our spiritual maturity.

And the seed whose fruit is righteousness (spiritual maturity) is sown in peace by those who make peace [by actively encouraging goodwill between individuals]. 📖 ‭‭James‬ ‭3.18‬ ‭AMP‬‬

We’re To Not Act Like The World (Being Worldly)

When we say “God’s not through with me yet” to license bad behavior, what we’re effectively saying is ‘God, I don’t want to go any further… Stop the transformation in my life because I no longer want to be obedient (in this thing), submitting to your way and will.’

You are still worldly [controlled by ordinary impulses, the sinful capacity]. For as long as there is jealousy and strife and discord among you, are you not unspiritual, and are you not walking like ordinary men [unchanged by faith]? 📖‭‭1st Corinthians‬ ‭3.3‬ ‭AMP‬‬

There’s a saying that not even God can move a parked car. Our transformation and growth require our willingness and submission to His process (obedience) just as much as it does God doing what He does. Because obedience is the true engine of transformation. And we can always trust God to do His part. We obey, He works in and transforms us.

Renewing Our Minds

God calls us to be renewed in our thinking so that we can take on more of His ways, desires, and thoughts that lead to God-like behavior and responses in tough situations.

And do not be conformed to this world [any longer with its superficial values and customs], but be transformed and progressively changed [as you mature spiritually] by the renewing of your mind [focusing on godly values and ethical attitudes], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His plan and purpose for you]. 📖 ‭‭Romans‬ ‭12.2‬ ‭AMP‬‬

When we willingly decide that we’re going to oppose the ways of God (and then brag about it), it’s not so much that God is “through with us” as much as it is us being through with allowing Him to work in and on us.

Therefore we do not become discouraged [spiritless, disappointed, or afraid]. Though our outer self is [progressively] wasting away, yet our inner self is being [progressively] renewed day by day. 📖 ‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭4.16‬ ‭AMP‬‬

We Are Called Up

For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to reject ungodliness and worldly (immoral) desires, and to live sensible, upright, and godly lives [with a purpose that reflect spiritual maturity] in this present age… 📖 ‭‭Titus‬ ‭2.11-12‬ ‭AMP‬‬

It’s not always easy to do the Godly thing, and sometimes it takes a minute to come around. This is His grace gifted to us in the moments where we fall short and that allows us to grow in maturity.

But when we know better, we should do better. We’re called to live above it (the ways of the world). That should always be our aim and we should never settle or make excuses for not doing it.
